What Is Donation Matching?
A matching gift is a corporate giving strategy where your employer will match your gift to your favourite charity often at 1:1 and sometimes even higher. So, if you donate $50 to CHHA, the matching gift would be your employer’s additional donation of $50. Instead of receiving a one-time $50 donation from you, CHHA receives $100, thanks to you and your employer.
Some companies will also make a donation in your name if you volunteer a certain number of hours to a charity, so that is something to consider as well. Ask your employer what they can do to help you make a bigger impact for the hard of hearing.
Corporations usually have a set policy that outlines maximum match amounts, submission deadlines, and rules about what kinds of organizations they will give to. This info can often be found on the website. So, check with your employer to see if they have these policies and guidelines in place. If not, that doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t support you in your giving. So don’t be afraid to ask if you can’t find any info on your own.
Matching Gifts Double Your Impact
Doubling your donation has an obvious benefit to CHHA financially, but there are other benefits for you and CHHA associated with matching gifts. It tells your employer that you are passionate about important community issues and that you care enough to have an impact. Additionally, it creates awareness for CHHA by you talking about it and asking for the matching gift. That simple act alone is an act of advocacy for the hard of hearing community.
So, ask your employer if they would consider matching your gift to CHHA. You might be surprised how receptive your boss is to your initiative and generosity.
