The CHHA Scholarship Program is Now Open!

Please visit our application page to begin your scholarship application for the 2025 academic year. Before completing the application, please read the POLICY AND REQUIREMENTS. The deadline for applications is on or before April 18, 2025.

For 20 years, the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association Scholarship Program has been helping students with hearing loss attend post-secondary schooling and meet their educational goals. It is supported by donations from Doreen Laszlo (spouse of Dr. Charles Laszlo), the estate of Helen Allen Stacey and CHHA Networks such as CHHA-North Shore, CHHA-NL and CHHA-YAN.

Helen Allen Stacey Scholarship ($1,500)​

Created in 2022 in memory of Helen Allen Stacey. This scholarship is for students in any of the following fields: Early Childhood Education, Personal Support Worker, Nursing, Medicine, or Journalism. It is renewable for up to 3 years, contingent upon satisfactory grades.

Young Adults Network Scholarships ($1,000)

These scholarships are directed to students who want to continue their education. Two scholarships will be awarded each year. It is available to students who are:
a) returning from employment to finish their diploma
b) completing an additional degree in a professional program
OR
c) completing a graduate program.

Carrell Hearn Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)

This scholarship is offered by CHHA-North Shore in memory of Carrell Hearn. She was a resident of West Vancouver, BC and a long-time member. She passed away in 2014 at the age of 105 and was a generous supporter of CHHA-North Shore as well as several other local North Shore charities.

Frank Algar Memorial Scholarship ($1,000)

Created in 2004 by the Algar family in memory of their father who was one of the founding members of CHHA. He provided outstanding service for many years and received numerous awards for his advocacy for the hard of hearing and people with disabilities.

The Dr. Charles A. Laszlo Scholarship ($2,000)

Generated by Dr. Doreen Laszlo to honour the commitment and work of her husband on behalf of hard of hearing people. He was the founding President of the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association and served on its Executive and Board of Directors in various capacities for 16 years.

Susan Brown Memorial Scholarship ($2,000)

Awarded to a deserving student in memory of Susan Brown, Chairperson of the CHHA-NL Families Resource Group. This scholarship is offered to students entering their first year of a full-time program in any area of study.
