The Accessible Canada Directorate is excited to announce the publication of the Accessible Canada Roadmap: Towards a Barrier-Free Canada by 2040!
The Roadmap is a national framework that supports and anchors the efforts of Canadians working to create a barrier-free Canada by 2040. It is based on the understanding that accessibility helps everyone, and that we all have a part to play in a realizing a barrier-free Canada as set out in the Accessible Canada Act.
In the spirit of Nothing Without Us, the Government of Canada carried out national engagement on a draft version of the Roadmap. During this engagement persons with disabilities, disability organizations, the private sector, Indigenous partners, federal partners and other levels of government, were invited to provide feedback on the Roadmap, and we are thankful to all who did. The final Roadmap reflects the diversity of perspectives and feedback shared during the engagement. A summary of engagement activities and the feedback received can be found in the What We Learned Report.
The Roadmap places persons with disabilities and the disability community at the centre of accessibility efforts, recognizing their essential role in driving meaningful change. It encourages conversations that can build momentum and accelerate efforts to advance accessibility. It is a resource that can help identify gaps, support the exchange of knowledge and expertise, and spark new actions and collaborations that can help realize a barrier-free Canada. We encourage all Canadians to read the Roadmap, share it, and most importantly, to use the Roadmap to establish goals and actions they can take.
Please share the Roadmap with your networks. Together, let’s work towards building a barrier-free Canada!
